The sixth topic in the Sociology of Crime & Deviance unit concerns the relationship between ethnicity, crime, and justice. Functionalists believe that crime is inevitable in society; poor socialisation and inequality result in the absence of norms and values being taught. For Durkeim, crime is normal and an essential part of all healthy societies (inevitability).
